Support WeSAVE Kreatif School - Sumbawa, Indonesia

Join us on our journey to support WeSAVE Kreatif, a school of 100 students who are from families who cannot afford an education. Students collect plastic for recycling which is then sold to a recycling plant and this, along with donations, funds their education. The school has a 100% graduation rate. Many students have been awarded scholarships to continue their education at Indonesian universities and international exchange programs. Most of the students attain fluency in English and live at the school, in the town of Dompu, on the island of Sumbawa, Indonesia. The total number of students has doubled in the last two years, as word of the program’s effectiveness spreads.

WeSAVE Kreatif and Millennium Kids now have two goals for the school: first, help it to become self-sustaining and second, to inspire schools globally to adopt a similar education model.

We are raising $5,000, for the purchase and regeneration of degraded land that we can use for education, food, and outdoor classrooms. This will be a first on the island and will inspire other schools do to the same. Together, they can have a major impact on the regeneration of forests and quality of life on the island.

As part of their education, students run outreach programs, to provide community education programs for English, sustainable waste management, land management. These programs are badly needed on the island, which is facing a severe plastic crisis and has been completely deforested by corn farming for the production of bioplastics.

Millennium Kids has supported WeSAVE Kreatif to build and develop the school through funding and mentoring.

My involvement

I have been a part of Millennium Kids since I was 10 and visited WeSAVE Kreatif in January 2023. The way these teachers and young people work together to make positive change in Indonesia and the world is very inspiring, and this project is growing. My involvement in this project includes managing their budget, regular visits and mentoring school leaders. It would mean a lot to me to help the WeSAVE community take their school to the next level – educate more students, tackle poverty and have an impact on major environmental issues.
