Support Valentine for her dream study

Hello dear reader,

My name is Valentine Bonsens. I am a 16 year old high school student. I’ve been accepted into a unique educational opportunity and would like to ask for your support as the cost for this program is quite a lot more than my family can manage. I’m asking for your support because I believe that everyone should be able to participate no matter the cost. I have an opportunity to study abroad for 6 weeks on Eleuthera island in the Bahamas. I will be able to learn about native ecosystems. I will be learning with a SCUBA program to explore the underwater environment that surrounds the island.

Growing up I did not fit in with the traditional education system and had a lot of challenges. So, when I found this great immersive outdoor educational opportunity involving experiential learning at The Island School, I was so excited! I eagerly applied to their summer education program. It is a once in a lifetime opportunity and has been called a life changing experience by past students.

At the school we will study human, island and ocean ecology using field-based scientific research with a foundation in experiential learning, history, and supplemental studies. It blends indoor and outdoor education with cultural immersion experiences.The campus is on a remote island in the Bahamas where our classroom is the island and the ocean. We will not just be learning about sustainability - we’ll “research it, work it, and live it.”

To attend I need to fundraise my portion of the tuition. I have set up this GoFundMe to share my opportunity in hopes that it will resonate with people who would like to contribute to my educational experience.

This school program is sustainability focused which I am drawn to because climate change is an especially important issue to me. When I heard about this immersive program, I thought it was a fantastic way to learn more about our planet and sustainability. I believe it will give me direction into what type of study I would like to pursue in my continuing education, possibly into areas I do not even know exist right now.
