Club Figure Skating at UVA is trying to get to MIT to compete at an intercollegiate competition and would be honored if you supported our cause.
Club Figure Skating at UVA is a fairly new program designed to bring together skaters of all levels to practice and compete at a collegiate level. For less experienced skaters, it provides an opportunity to learn more about the sport and to develop basic skills in a comfortable, encouraging peer environment. For competitive skaters, it provides an opportunity to travel and compete as a cohesive team, continuing our training in a sport we have loved for years. This year we plan to take 18 skaters to a competition in Boston Massachusetts where we will represent UVA against 24 other colleges on the east coast including Dartmouth College, Cornell University, Boston College, MIT, and many more. The funds we raise during this campaign will go directly towards paying for our transportation expenses and your donation is what will make this possible.
Last year we placed higher as an overall team than any year prior, surpassing over half of the other schools. Our intermediate team took home gold and our solo skaters finished at the top of various freestyle and dance events taking home silver and two bronze medals. Club Figure Skating at UVA is in its early stages; five years ago we competed for the first time with a group of just five skaters and last year we placed at all three competitions with a competitive team of twelve skaters. We have grown and improved each year and have begun the process of becoming a known force in the collegiate figure skating community.
We are one of the only teams that are completely student run at the collegiate level. This means that we are entirely responsible for fundraising, competition logistics, and coaching. We are grateful to the University for the support they are able to provide for practice ice time but there are simply not enough funds available for the University to support our traveling for major competitions. The team takes great pride in representing the University community and we are becoming more and more respected and known every year. For many of our skaters, Club Figure Skating at UVA has become a second home and a place that encourages creativity, bravery, and unconditional love and support. We ask that you consider helping us raise funds to compete at MIT as we continue to grow the skating program at UVA. Thank you so much for your consideration.
