About us

After recording José de Nebra's zarzuelas "Vendado es Amor, no es ciego" in 2019 and "Donde hay violencia, no hay culpa" in 2021, the Ensemble Los Elementos wants to continue the project of discovering Nebra's great stage works with the opera "Venus y Adonis".

Since its foundation in 2018, Los Elementos has specialized in Spanish Baroque music, performing and recording several of the most important works by José de Nebra or Francisco Corselli, both composers at the Spanish Court in the 18th Century. For this world-première recording we have gathered a deluxe ensemble of international singers and instrumentalists.

Venus y Adonis

Premiered in 1729, it is one of his two surviving operas, both of them written 15 years before his famous zarzuelas. "Venus y Adonis" in fact it was the second act of a bigger work called "Las tres comedias en una", but because of its beauty, it was soon performed individually with huge success at the time. It narrates one of the most beautiful stories in classical mythology, the love story between Venus and Adonis. The opera begins with the goddess Venus jealous of the beauty of a shepherd named Adonis. However, when she meets him, she falls madly in love with him, and the young man corresponds to her. But Mars, Venus's husband, agrees a plan with the goddess Cybele to kill Adonis, who is wounded by a wild boar. Venus, in love, decides to transform her lover into a flower so that he can live eternity with her.

In order to make it possible, we would like to ask you for your help, as a recording of this calibre involves great costs. Singers, instrumentalists, the sound engineer and the room must be paid. Therefore ANY CONTRIBUTION would be more than WELCOME.

60€ or more: copy of the CD "Venus and Adonis" signed by the leader of the ensemble.
100€ or more: a copy of the CD signed by the conductor of the ensemble + a "thank you" video from the conductor of the ensemble.
200€ or more: all previous gifts + the possibility to attend to the rehearsals this November in Riehen and meet the artists.
500€ or more: all previous gifts (2 CDs instead) + 2 invitations for one of our concerts. Your name will be included in the CD booklet as a sponsor.
1'000€: all previous gifts (4 CDs instead) + meet the artists in a Spanish dinner or in a zoom meeting.
4'000€: all previous gifts (6 CDs instead) + private concert with 5 musicians of the ensemble (travels not included)
