We are Make Music Day Pittsburgh (MMD PGH) co-coordinated by André Solomon and Michaela Kizershot White. We recently hosted our annual event that took place this past June 21st where we bought music making to the Pittsburgh community. In 2019, Make Music Pittsburgh engaged over 415 audience members, over 25 venues, and over 15 ensembles in the day’s celebration. Along with performances, the day included community participatory events such as Bucket Drumming, a Sound Exploration Tent, Yoga & Piano, Movement and Meditation, and a Ukulele Jam Session.
Being an organization that runs on a "no admission" policy, funding can be rather tight, therefore we are asking the larger community for any support in our operational costs, including membership fees for Make Music Day Alliance, website fees, marketing materials, etc. We have a goal of $500 and hope you can be apart of this special project that emphasizes building performance opportunities for neighborhood music lovers of all ages and musical abilities
"Make Music Day Pittsburgh's mission is to empower the Pittsburgh community to make music every summer solstice, drawing inspiration from Fete de la Musique. We accomplish this by pairing community music makers to local venues throughout Pittsburgh’s neighborhoods. This day exists for every Pittsburgher to celebrate the joy of music and music making in a casual setting. Everyone is encouraged to participate, no expertise necessary."
