The Twichell Family-Numbers Fire Relief Fund

Please take a few minutes to read about the Twichell Family...Thanks!
Update July 10th:  After reaching the first, second, and final goal of $50,000, the Twichell family is committed to sharing any future donations with the neighboring homes that were also lost in the Numbers fire.  We have already begun contacting the other families affected.  It is so important during these unprecedented times to stick together and give our support when we can.  On behalf of the Twichell Family we thank you and are so humbled by the swift and selfless support people have shown.

When I think of what a friend is, only one thing comes to mind: Shane Twichell.  I have known Shane and his family since 2002.  As our friendship grew, Shane was always someone to be counted on, respected, and ready with a smile on his face.  Ask anyone he has ever worked for; they will tell you Shane was always going above and beyond the call of duty, supporting his co-workers every single day.

Shane is a Douglas County man through and through.  He grew up in the Carson Valley and ultimately graduated from Douglas High.  Even when he moved to Oregon for a change of scenery, he was always checking the local news to see what was going on and kept in touch with his friends and family.  When his family needed him most late last year, Shane dropped everything and moved back to his childhood home in the Pinenuts to help out.  A friend who understands sacrifice and the importance of family is someone worth knowing in my book.

During summer of 2020, the Twichell family had to endure the death of a loved one, Karen Kehr (Twichell).  She was an incredible daughter, sister, and wife.  Due to the quarantine they had to postpone memorial services.  While uncertainly waiting, the Numbers Fire which started in southern Gardnerville, claimed their home making their lives even more challenging.

The Twichell's have been in our local area for over 40 years.  Any member of their family was and always is willing to help others out.  Let's show them what real friends can do for others when they need it and deserve it most.

Barbara Matthews, Shane's mother, is the sole recipient of the funds for this campaign.  All of the money donated will go directly to her and the Twichell Family.  They are planning on using these donations to begin replacing things that were lost in the fire (clothes, housewares, food, comfort items), living expenses while searching for their new home, and funeral costs for when the family is able to hold a service for Karen.  Anything raised beyond the $50,000 goal will be paid forward and we posted an update above with those plans.

Take care of yourselves out there and if you can, spread a little kindness too...it sure does go a long way.
