Support the Schwartz Family

Donation protected
The Farley Open Committee is honored to announce their support for the Schwartz family as the 2020 charity beneficiary.   Sadly, in January, Keith Schwartz and his three beautiful children, Catie (20), Nathan (17) and Kelly (10), lost their loving wife and mother, Sharon, to cancer after a hard-fought, 2-year battle.  To say this is a massive loss to the family would be an understatement in many ways. In addition to the loss of their wife/mother, Sharon carried the health benefits and her salary was a major contributor to the family’s bills.  Please take a moment to read Sharon’s story below.

In 2018 Keith’s wife of 22 years, Sharon, went in for a routine surgery when a small mass was detected and removed from her lower bowel. It was discovered to be a very rare form of cancer called adenocarcinoma. They soon learned that the cancer was stage IV and that it had spread throughout Sharon’s abdomen and pelvis.  They also learned that small bowel cancer is extremely rare with no known specialized treatment or studies.  Despite the odds, Sharon fought through 2 long years of treatments and surgery before losing her battle.  She was strong and resilient but ultimately passed away at the age of 49 on January 31, 2020.

Sharon was kind and gentle and always had a smile on her face and was truly loved by all. Over 700 people attended her memorial service which is a testament to Sharon. She was a positive energy to all around her and no one would ever know she was battling cancer as she worked right up until two months before her death. She worked as a Nurse Practitioner in oncology at Fox Chase Cancer Center. Having earned 3 degrees, she was passionate about her work and was extremely dedicated to helping others.  She led the Oncofertility Program at Fox Chase and lectured nationally on fertility preservation, survivorship and ovarian cancer.   She brought so much hope and support to her patients and all those around her every day.

Sharon’s most important role was that of wife and mother. She left behind her high school sweetheart, husband Keith, and their three children, Catie (20), Nathan (17), and Kelly (10). Keith has promised their kids that he will do his best to always be as caring, strong, happy and brave as Sharon was.

Sharon and Keith are cousins/niece & nephew to Larry McLaughlin Jr/Larry Mclaughlin Sr. The McLaughlin Family has been a part of the Farley Open for many years and are in need of our support this year.  The Farley Open family has been so generous with their support in past years and we ask you to once again show love, prayers, and financial support to a wonderful family who is currently experiencing some struggles.

100% of every dollar we raise will go directly to the Schwartz family to help them through a very tough time.

Whatever assistance you can provide would go a long way in our effort.

The Farley Open is an annual golf outing started by Bob Farley Sr. as a way to gather friends and family for a fun weekend of golf. The weekend has turned into more than golf and for over the last 10 years, the outing has chosen a family struggling to support financially. The current golf outing is led by Bob Farley Jr. and a group of dedicated family and friends in the greater Philadelphia area. ALL of the funds raised from the golf outing goes directly to the family during a check presentation after the golf outing in early October. The family is free to use the funds for whatever needs they may have at the time. To help you get a better understanding of our event, links to our Farley Open Website and Facebook Page are included.
