The Holy Ghost Association of Martha’s Vineyard is an organization
established in 1926 by the descendents of Portuguese immigrants that is dedicated to the social, educational and civic, interest of the Island’s community. Through the years it has developed into an ecumenical, multicultural representation of Island inhabitants. We are currently a 501 C4 organization.
Our 1,400 members take pride in supporting the major charitable causes that are an intricate part of the Island’s community in many of the following ways. We annually host a Chili contest, whose proceeds benefit island children at Christmas time, by purchasing toys and clothing, We have Community Easter Egg hunts, and Christmas parties with Mr. and Mrs. Claus open to all children, we fund one High school student per year on an educational trip to Washington D.C., we host hundreds of fund raising events for Island schools, as well as community members suffering from catastrophic illnesses, we provide funds for members who are ill or in need by paying utility bills, groceries, medical appointments, or transportation to appointments and what ever else is needed. We host dozens of funerals annually, alleviating a huge burden for the families, and in the past 30 years we have raised over $400,000.00 and bestowed it upon many graduating Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School seniors to use towards their college education. Through the years we have been the single largest contributor for scholarships on the Island.
We are a non-profit organization that greatly depends on contributions to ensure that we can continue with our good works for our community, Martha’s Vineyard. We greatly appreciate and thank you for any and all help you can give us that will allow us to continue to provide charitable works in our community.
