What a journey it has been – from August 2021 when Lincoln voted 3:1 to withdraw from the Mt. Abraham Union School District until November 2022 when the State Board of Education (finally!) designated Lincoln as its own Supervisory District! Few could have foreseen the twists, turns and delays, but we are now in the homestretch to taking back full local control of the education of all Lincoln students, PreK-12! Wow!!
The pace of work of the LSD Board will accelerate substantially over the coming months as we move to be fully operational by July 1, 2023. We are counting on the community for its continued moral support of our efforts, without which we would not have made it this far.
To the extent you are able to contribute, we are also asking for financial assistance to help us meet our new BIGGER and BETTER fundraising goal of $100,000 to cover virtually ALL of the one-time transition costs of getting from now until July 1. How will these funds be used:
- Legal fees to negotiate our financial exit agreement from MAUSD and ensure we receive funds due Lincoln
- Legal representation transitioning the contract with teachers and administrators who will now be employed by LSD, not MAUSD
- An education consultant to guide the Board to ensure all systems are in place to meet both the moral and legal responsibilities to provide Lincoln students with the highest quality education
- A financial consultant to continue to refine the FY’24 budget
- Purchase of new technology and technology platforms to ensure the successful migration of all student data from MAUSD to Lincoln
- Recruitment and hiring of staff to fulfill central office functions
- Submitting grant proposals for both federal and private funding
