We hope this note finds all of you healthy and happy at this very odd and challenging time.
We are all wondering how we can help support our communities. Many of you have asked us directly if there was something you could do to help us. We come back to the same place time and again. Many of the employees of St Michael's Alley are struggling to take care of their families. There are more than 30 employees and most of them have been with the restaurant for many years (decades, actually). We have managed to stay open for take-out to help some of the staff continue to have a small income. Thank you all who have placed orders, bought gift cards, and tipped so generously! It all helps very much. This effort only includes a small part of our staff. We are not even close to making ends meet, and Jenny and I are taking no salaries for ourselves or rent to pay the mortgage. However, it is helping the handful of workers who are rotating through, and keeping a presence for our faithful customers.
With this in mind we are setting up a Go Fund Me, exclusively for the employees of St. Michael's Alley. We hesitated, hoping for federal assistance which never came. Then, for a critical mass of to-go orders, which seems unattainable. We realize that everybody is struggling now, and that it is not possible for everyone to help. This is by no means a cry for help. However, we are asked often from our friends and clients how they can help. GoFundMe is another vehicle to help support or staff. We have a long way to go before things normalize, and the restaurant industry is one of the hardest hit - it's impossible for restaurant employees to work from home. Yet, their living expenses continue. We have faith that we can make it, but honestly it is unclear. After 26 years of success and fun and love and an extended family, we hit a wall.
If you are in a position to help, and want to see all those familiar faces when we get back up and running, we thank you. 100% of the money raised will go directly to our dedicated employees.
Help your neighbor, love your children (don't kill your children), pray for the sick and those who have lost people they love, be thankful for all the workers and volunteers on the front line, and be thankful for all that we still have.
