Support the Chief, so called because he is the leader of our clan. Raymond has seven children, eleven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. With such a large and ever growing family, Chief is an apt nickname for our patriarch.

On March 20th, a life threatening abdominal aortic aneurysm was discovered during a routine CT scan. The vascular surgeons in Maine refused to perform the risky surgery and sent the Chief to St. Elizabeth's Medical Center in Boston.

On March 23rd, the aneurysm was removed and the artery repaired by a world renowned surgeon. Post operative bleeding demanded two additional surgeries, the final of which required the removal of Ray's "good" kidney to save his life. The next few days were touch and go.

After two weeks and counting in the ICU, discharge is on the horizon. He will require dialysis permanently and a stay in rehab to rebuild his strength. His recovery is far from over.

The money raised will fund three things:
1. Out of Pocket Medical Expenses - any expenses accrued from the hospital and rehab stay not covered by insurance.

2. Adaptive Equipment and Upgrades - any equipment required to improve day to day activity and/or additional construction or renovations to the home (such as wheelchair ramp, safety bars, etc.) to improve accessibility

3. Future Travel to Boston - for follow up procedures and appointments required to ensure continued recovery, health and longevity.

There are many changes yet to come. At this time, it is impossible to know what the final expenses will be; nor what adaptive equipment  and residential upgrades will be needed. The family wants to ensure we are fully prepared for the Chief's homecoming.  We're hoping the current goal will be more than ample.

Any money raised that is not needed will be donated the American Kidney Fund, which helps dialysis patients receive the life saving treatment and/or helps with the cost of transplant.

The Chief has always been generous with his time. At a moment's notice, he was willing to provide assistance to family, friends, acquaintances and strangers. Whether it was opening his home to the soon to be homeless, rescuing a stranded motorist, repairing any and all household appliances for neighbors, or providing counsel and advice. Ray has always followed the moral code that "if you can help, you should help."

Please consider donating to Support the Chief and give to a man who has given so much of himself to others.
