We are a member of The Community Foundation of NC East, a 501c3, devoted to the rescue, spay / neuter, vetting and adoption of homeless, abused or abandoned cats and kittens.
We ease the pain, hunger, and abuse animals experience and provide shelter for them as we help find forever homes for the creatures entrusted to us. By acting as a resource and educating the community about animal issues, we hope to prevent over breeding of animals. We find homes for animals, and serve as a shelter for unwanted, neglected, abused, and homeless cats and kittens. Beare Garden Animal Rescue is a nonprofit dedicated to saving animals no one else can.
When shelters and other nonprofits are filled to capacity, Beare Garden steps in. This organization, founded and operated by dedicated animal lovers, has saved hundreds of cats and kittens from euthanasia or life on the streets.
The SOS Kitten Program targets the flood of kittens born each spring in Eastern NC. Owners neglect to spay and neuter their animals, or cats are abandoned. They breed and the entire family is unwanted – and dumped. Some of these cat families end up at Beare Garden, where kittens are nursed back to health, and mothers are treated with compassion – for the first time in their lives.
Others are not as lucky. Without a home, they remain on the streets, where they deal with respiratory and eye infections, hunger, cruelty, and trauma. Pitt County has publicly funded animal services and must be applauded for hundreds of cats they save each year.
Yet the burden is too great, and each spring brings more kittens.
Beare Garden Animal Rescue hopes todevelop a targeted program for Kitten Season.
No other agency in the area has such a program.
The program will make sure kittens and their mothers are spayed and neutered – a vital first step in reducing the problem of unhealthy, homeless cats and the public costs associated with them.
The costs of this program include vet visits, rabies vaccinations and other prevention, and microchips. Beare Garden will house and find fosters for kittens while they await their fur-ever homes.
Beare Garden helps the animals no one else can. Animals who face immediate euthanasia. Vet care no one else can pay for. Antibiotics, eye drops, spay and neuter surgeries.
2019 Action Recap:
±Found homes for more than 310 kittens, cats and dogs in 18 months
±Paid for 429 cats and kittens to get vet care, spay/neuter, and emergency vet care
±Provided food, litter, and medications to people in hardship so they could keep their beloved pets
±Educated the community on pet care and the importance of spaying and neutering
Yet there is still more need. The organization had to turn away more than 250 homeless animals in 2019. We want to change that. The cost for veterinary care to meet our community’s need is about $65,000 yearly. We help the animals no other agency can, and we want to expand our reach next year.
