We are a gymnastics team, but we are also a community and a family.
Blair Bajraktari, the father of Hana Bajraktari, a member of our girl's team, has been battling pancreatic cancer. Unfortunately, he lost that battle on Saturday, October 13 and passed away at the age of 57. He is survived by his soulmate, Catherine Copeland, and his two children, Hana and Alec.
Blair was the consummate coach, whether encouraging his wife’s art career, his brother’s business ventures, his son’s baseball practice, or his daughter’s gymnastic goals. Prior to and during his illness, Blair was the dad on the bleachers and at meets, near and far, supporting Hana's gymnastics endeavors. Those of us who got to know him through our connection to U.S. Gym will sorely miss him.
In addition to the unimaginable loss the family is facing, Blair's illness has left the family with steep medical bills and expenses. Hana's teammates have decided to start a collection to support Catherine, Hana and Alec and help them with the range of financial obligations, including gymnastics, they are facing.
