Support Sophia Through her Epilepsy Journey

Donation protected
The seizures started when Sophia was just nine years old. Doctors found lesions on her brain and diagnosed her with Epilepsy. Sophia’s world changed forever as the battle for her health began. Since the initial diagnosis, she has been prescribed a number of different drugs but they have all failed, causing devastating side effects like extreme dizziness, unbearable exhaustion, vomiting, diarrhea, mood swings and weight gain. She has been to countless doctor’s visits and seen many doctors who have not yet been able to get the seizures under control. Her last hospital visit involved Sophia’s head wrapped in EEG leads and tethered to a monitor, undergoing sleep deprivation, in an effort to record as many seizures as possible.

Her seizures continue, even while she sleeps at night, leaving her exhausted and vulnerable. Any adult would find these conditions miserable and lose hope as their life plummets from normalcy. But this brave young girl has worked hard to maintain a positive outlook and stay as active in her life as possible with the support of her mom Sarah McGonigal, Grandma Elaine Schow, her family, and friends.

In July, doctors informed Sophia she was a candidate for brain surgery. She is scared. We are all scared. But when the dark clouds threaten, we give Sophia our strength, and just keep going.

Sarah has had to scale back employment because Sophia’s deteriorating health makes it difficult for her to regularly attend school. Her medications and medical supplies are costly. They are scraping by with rent and groceries. They need help.

Would you help me in supporting my good brave friend Sarah McGonigal and her daughter Sophia Macgregor by making a donation and sharing this link on your social media platforms? The goal I have set will see them through 6 difficult months.

Sarah’s hope: to one day not have to count how many seizures Sophia has in a week; to not have to count out pills for her to take with breakfast and then again at dinner; to not think about her child in surgery.

Thank you for doing all you can to help Sophia and her family stop counting the bad things, and start counting the days of seizure freedom!
