Support Sonya's Fight for Health

Hi, my name is Samantha and I am fundraising for a long time friend Sonya.

From the pictures you might think that this is a weight problem, but it’s not. Sonya has been thin her whole life. Not knowing why all of a sudden she was swelling up? Then finding out that she has a condition that needs medical attention.

Sonya has been sick since March of last year. She has had numerous surgeries. The surgery that they thought was going to work is called G-poem surgery, but unfortunately it didn’t work for her.

Another one they want to try is endoscopic sleeve Gastroplasty surgery. Typically yes it’s a weight loss surgery however she is throwing up everything she eat. Therefore she shouldn’t have been gaining weight.

Sonya is on 3 liters of oxygen. She also takes a ton of medication. She has a potassium deficiency and magnesium deficiency. Both causes her levels to drop drastically. Along with taking the meds she has to get an IV drip. Sonya goes every 3 days for blood work.

Her cholesterol all of a sudden has gotten out of hand. She developed a severe case of gastroenteritis. Because of it nothing stays down!

If she can get the surgery, it will help her with her potassium and magnesium levels! Also her levels won’t drop from her constantly throwing up. Most important because of the fast and random weight gain, it will help her breathing.

Her mental health is plummeting. She has severe anxiety and depression.

Sonya was constantly in and out of the hospital. Therefore lost her job and the insurance that came with it. So she got welfare insurance.

Well this is the only surgery she is a candidate for because the others require medication. Well she can’t take the medication due to interactions with her other medications.

But here is the kicker! The fact that welfare doesn’t recognize this surgery as a “life saving surgery”! In this case it is because of all her other issues! One of which is non alcoholic cirrhosis.
