Support Sabrina and Jess IVF Journey

Donation protected
Hi everyone,

We are Sabrina and Jess, wives for almost 3 years! We are in our early 30s, we have 3 fur babies. The last 5, soon to be 6 years have been quite the rollercoaster but our love is stronger than ever! From the day we met, we knew one day we wanted to start a family of our own and experience the joys of motherhood.

That journey for us started 2 years ago when we reached out to our fertility clinic to better understand the process and what our options were. We have since found the donor of our dreams and began the long process. Last year, we went through a bunch of tests, blood work, and ultrasounds and were told that Sabrina had a low egg count reserve for her age and possibly a blocked fallopian tube which could make it harder for us to get pregnant. We met with our fertility doctor and he was optimistic and confident that being still young, our chances to get pregnant were still very good.

We then began IUI. Boy were we happy, we prayed and hoped that it would all work out. In June of 2023, we did our first IUI which came back negative. We were gearing up to start our second IUI, but we were given the news that the cycle wasn't good and we had to wait another month. At the end of August 2023, we were given the green light to go ahead with our second IUI and in September, we were told it was also unsuccessful. Feeling optimistic, we decided to try one more time for a third round of IUI, but in October and November of 2023, both months were not good to try. We were getting stressed and overwhelmed but we did not giving up on our dreams of motherhood.

With our failed IUI's and our constant high estrogen levels at the start of each cycle, our fertility doctor referred us to a Naturopath and also referred us to another fertility clinic in downtown Toronto where they would be able to perform IVF. Our doctor felt this would give us the best possible chance for us to become parents and make our dreams come true.

In January of 2024, we had our first consultation appointment with our fertility doctor at the Toronto clinic. He went over our previous IUI cycles, our previous test results, explained to us how IVF works, and what's included but also not included with our one funded IVF treatment.

Our fertility doctor and his team reassured us that we can still fulfill our dream of expanding our family with IVF because IVF bypasses the fallopian tubes altogether and the embryos are inserted right into the uterus in the hopes of one (or more) implanting. We knew IVF was a more invasive procedure, but we also knew our chances of success were higher as well. With one tube likely blocked, this was our best chance yet. We were overwhelmed with joy and happiness and our doctor told us to prepare to wait 12-18 months to start treatment.

We were happy with waiting because it gave us time to save up money for the out of pocket expenses we would have to pay for. To our shock and surprise, we received a call less than a week later, saying we could start our IVF cycle in March of 2024. We were happy but nervous at the same time.

In Ontario, one IVF cycle funded by the government of Ontario is still $10,000+ out of pocket:

$5,000+ for the injections/medications
$4500+ for the PGT-A testing (making sure the embryos have all the correct number of chromosomes and are healthy)
$3000+ for frozen embryo storage, Spindle View testing, etc (another test to check the embryo if the sperm and eggs fertilized correctly etc).

With the high cost of living and the cost of IVF and all the tests, medications, drive to and from the clinic, we are coming up short on the out of pocket expenses that we need to pay for. Not wanting to miss out on what might be our one opportunity, and getting the call much earlier than anticipated, we would be very grateful and thankful for any help that we receive as we go through our journey.

From the bottom of our hearts,
Sabrina, Jess and our future little nugget ❤️
