My name is Timothy and I am writing on behalf of Dreams of the Tropical Youth Uganda as the Founder and Executive Director.
Currently in Uganda, over 10 million people still live without safe water; 65% are not practicing improved hygiene behavior ; about 8% of the total population practice open defecation. This worrying situation concerns us as advocates for gender equality and women, and girls empowerment.
The onset of menstruation is one of the major factors that affect school attendance among girls. They don’t only lack safe products to use, but also menstrual health knowledge and private Water, sanitation and Hygiene facilities for changing are limited, and gender-specific needs for girls are overlooked, resulting in a lack of changing rooms and facilities for product disposal for girls at school.
Rural schools have high learner populations and yet have few and dilapidated facilities, which are shared among the teachers, the girls and the boys and even some community members.
The goal of this campaign during this menstrual month is to raise funds to build a girl's latrine at Kingere Primary School in kyotera district - rural Uganda. By dedicating more time and money to sanitation efforts, we can help reduce diseases through construction of dignifying facilities to enable girls deal with their special needs.

About Menstrual Hygiene Day (MH Day): 28th of May
Menstrual Hygiene Day (MH Day) was launched by WASH United in 2014. It is a global advocacy platform that brings together the voices and actions of non-profits, government agencies, individuals, the private sector and the media to promote good menstrual health and hygiene (MHH) for all menstruators. By coming together on 28 May each year, the global community magnifies the importance of Menstrual health and hygiene and advocates for more funding into this underserved space.
By raising awareness and championing education, and increasing access to sanitation facilities, we can help break down stigma, empower those who face inequities. Therefore, we request you to join us to take take action so as to create a truly equal world, where no girl is held back because of their period.

Dreams of the Tropical Youth Uganda is a fully registered youth centered non-profit organization working to improve the socioeconomic and health wellbeing of the deprived rural youth. Our work targets young people aged 10-24 years in the Southwestern districts of Kyotera & Rakai.
