Hey Rich Oak Family!
Over the last 10 months, we have faced an so much together. From the continuing pandemic, to the ongoing fight for Black liberation, we have continued to provide a space to express, dialogue, and meditate on the current events of the world through the vehicle of spoken word poetry. We need your help to keep this up.
Rich Oak is an events production program based in the SF Bay Area. We are a program of Bay Area Creative, a 501 (c) 3 non profit, and we produce the Oakland Poetry Slam, the Berkeley poetry Slam, and the Alchemy Open Mic.
Prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, we were struggling from show to show through ticket sales, donations collected from our audience, and minimal grant funding. Because of Shelter in Place orders, we shifted to an online platform, and continued producing our shows to keep the poetry community alive in the digital age.
All of our online events are free to the public. They are not free to produce.
We pay each and every organizer, intern , and workshop facilitator for the work that they do, because we believe that COMMUNITY WORK should be compensated. We pay winners of our Poetry Slams a cash prize, because we believe EVERY ARTIST is valuable. We pay for e-security and accessibility platforms because we believe that EVERYONE has the right to use our stage to express themselves AND be safe while doing so. We have been able to get by on the generous support of our growing Patreon community, but times are still tough with no reopening in sight for Bay Area Venues.
Between 7 poetry events and 7 writing workshop a month, our expenses are piling up. Coupled with anticipated grant cuts that will be impacting our funding further, WE NEED COMMUNITY SUPPORT TO CONTINUE.
We hope you see the value of our work and choose to help us continue providing our programs by donating to this fund.
