Support Resistance Rides!

Hi, y'all! Our names are Avery Temple (all pronouns), priya (she/they), and Tyee Williams (he/him). Avery is a queer, mixed-race Indigenous person. priya is an indigenous, gender non-conforming femme. Tyee is a cis white man and accomplice. We all reside on the land of the Kalapuya, Chinook, Clackamas, and many other first peoples who are recognized and unrecognized (or so-called Portland, Oregon).

as a bearer of their matriarchal lineages, priya is committed to this work because they are invested in decolonial futures where Black, brown, and Indigenous peoples may live joyfully alongside all their sentient relatives. they walk to the path to those futures seriously and playfully.

Within the last several years, Avery has helped organize multiple trips for people of various skill levels, backgrounds, and cultures to attend and safely return from climate justice-centered protests. It is something that makes them feel alive, excited, and hopeful in a time when those emotions are rare.

Challenging the destruction of water, land, and ways of life is inversely also an incredible building process, of connection to the world, of relationships to one another, and of alternatives to extractive industry. Tyee has found these acts of resistance as crucial for sparking the creativity and fire within people and the movement at large.

Something that brings all of us great joy is to see people become transformed by participating in acts of resistance. This is why we want to fundraise to begin Resistance Rides. Ideally, this service will be free to anyone who wants to participate in acts of resistance all over the country - from Line 3 to Peehee Mu'huh to the Wet'suwet'en fighting the Coastal Gaslink pipeline . These rides will prioritize Indigenous people and people of color who want to participate but have financial barriers that dissuade them from making the trip. Even after meeting the initial goal, this GoFundMe will remain up as a way to provide a source of income for those who miss out on work or who need money to pay bills while they're away at camp.

Here's the estimated breakdown for the initial goal of $15,500:
  • Vehicle, either an RV, van, or small bus: $10,000
  • Minor retrofits to make the RV/van/bus habitable for a small group: $1,000
  • Insurance for the first year: $1,000
  • Maintenance: $2,000
  • Title transfer: $500
  • Gas for the first trip: $500
  • Food and supplies for the first trip: $500

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this. Please donate (even $1, $5, or $10 is helpful!) and share to as many places as possible. Help us make this dream a reality! ♡
