Support Peter Serrone With His Fight Against ALS

Donation protected
Pete is 49 and has been married for 25 years to his high school sweetheart, Nancy. They have two daughters: Maeghan, who is a hairstylist and married to her husband, Sean, and Emilie, who is studying to be a nurse and works for St. Luke’s Hospital as a PCA.

From a young age, Pete was a dedicated volunteer Firefighter/EMT with local fire companies and rescue squads. In 1999, he became a police officer with Raritan Township PD and served in the patrol, Emergency Response, and motorcycle units after attending the NJSP municipal police academy. In 2012, Pete transferred to the Readington Township PD where he was promoted to the rank of Corporal before retiring in 2022.

Pete worked tirelessly to provide for his family. He had a second career at the Flemington-Raritan First Aid & Rescue Squad where he first volunteered at the age of 16. Pete transitioned to a paid EMT position and he retired from “49 Rescue” after 30 years of service. Additionally, he worked as a driver for Steve Kalafer and his family, drove a school bus for the Hunterdon Central School District, and assisted at Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home. After he retired, he worked as the head of security for Johanna Foods.

Pete has always been an avid motorcycle rider. Pete completed the challenging Motor Officer School and was honored to escort the Law Enforcement Unity Tour to Washington, DC each year for National Police Week. He also took many enjoyable trips with the 119th Motorcycle Club in Flemington, NJ, and never passed up the opportunity to ride on two wheels, regardless of the weather or temperature.

Pete always put his family first. He is an amazing father who rarely missed his daughters’ school events and cheerleading competitions, even while working two or three jobs. He and Nancy have also enjoyed their RV, camping, and beach trips with friends for many years.

One of Pete’s favorite hobbies is exploring New York City. Whether it was barhopping with friends, watching the Yankees play, or taking his daughters in for coffee or lunch, Pete never missed the chance to be in the city when time allowed. Pete is also a proud member of the Italian American Police Society of New Jersey where he served on the executive board for many years.

In December 2023, just a year after retiring, Pete was diagnosed with amyotropic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. He started aggressive treatment immediately with daily infusions and oral medications, along with Occupational and Physical Therapy. The effects of ALS forced him to stop working. ALS has put a focus on what really matters…time together with friends and family. The Serrones are focused on keeping a positive mindset despite his diminished physical abilities and surrounding him with love and laughter.

Your donations will help Pete and his family with the costs related to ALS, including home renovations, medical testing, copays, medications, medical equipment, future at-home care, and travel expenses. The average lifetime out-of-pocket expenses for an ALS patient WITH health insurance is between $100,000 and $200,000. Please help us in supporting Pete and his family by donating. Every dollar counts. Please share this page with everyone who knows Pete and his family. Thank you!
