Easter / Pascha is rapidly approaching and a spot has been reserved in the middle of Texas A&M University campus on an elevated surface so that we could erect a cross and remind folk of the season. This will be there from April 3rd - April 13th (minus the 6th).
Design setup:
The cross will be ~8 ft tall and ~4 ft wide. It will be mainly dominated by its front face. The front face will be mounted to a cross frame so as to give a 3D rendering of the cross. That cross will then be braced appropriately so that it can stay intact during windy or stormy weather.
The front face will be an image of a cross icon. An image will be projected onto a piece of plywood and then traced out via pencil or marker. Then, that piece of plywood will be cut so as to match the shape of a cross. With the design of the icon sketched out on the now cross-cut piece of plywood, a woodburn pen will be applied over the lines to give a distinct, real image onto the plywood. As seen in the picture, the image has two colors: black and white. This same effect will be done with two different varnishes: one lighter (for the image of Christ on the cross) and one darker (the 'outside' of the image). This will then be sealed with a type of exterior, marine grade seal so that it can be continuously exposed to the elements.
Thousands of students walk by this area every week day. It's the perfect spot to remind everyone that Christ Is Risen!
UPDATE: Plywood has been done, but the project is severely over budget. I can cover the rest of expenses, but $700 would help me incredibly for covering like 2/3rds of the cost.
