Hi, my name is Neil Baker and I have been selected to play for Great Britain 45's Basketball Team in the European Championships in Pesaro, Italy 2024. The European Tournament takes place over 11 days this June.
It is without doubt my greatest achievement to play at International level for Great Britain and to continue playing a sport I love. I have played basketball at a high level all my life, and to continue doing so is a blessing. It is a great honour to have been selected, and I take great pride in being at my very best ready to represent Great Britain. I train in excess of 10 hours per week in preparation.
The GB Maxibasketball program is ground breaking. However, it is only in its 3rd year for men and doesn't have the same support that the Junior and Senior Great Britain teams have.
As you can imagine, participating in an international tournament comes with its own set of challenges, particularly in terms of funding. Unfortunately the program is self funding and currently players have to fund their accommodation, travel (fights/transfers), food, training kit, time off work (particularly for me as I am self employed), and treatment. This includes 8 training weekends leading up to the tournament (Nottingham, Glasgow) and a preparation Santander (Spain).
Your support will directly help me as I prepare to compete against the best National teams in Europe. All donations, no matter the size will be a huge help and massively appreciated.
