On Wednesday January 18th, 2023 17-year-old MiQuavious Blanchard was critically wounded, while simply trying to dispose of trash for his mother. MiQuavious Blanchard was confronted by unknown persons who had taken issue with him utilizing the dumpster in their complex as he had routinely done for many years without incident. According to witnesses MiQuavious did not engage in an argument with the noticeably older men. When he got into his vehicle to leave he noticed that one of the individuals had a handgun. When MiQuavious attempted to get away someone opened fire striking him in the back of the head. When his mother Apollonia arrived on scene shortly after midnight she found her son all alone inside a wrecked vehicle bleeding from the head, no one offered any assistance they simply watched from their balconies as she screamed for help and waited over 20 minutes for the EMT to arrive.MiQuavious Blanchard was rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital where he continues to fight for his life on a ventilator.MiQuavious is the glue that holds his family together, a loving big brother to his five younger siblings he is always willing to lend a helping hand around the house. As an aspiring musician he has always been passionate about music, loves fishing ,video gaming, and hanging out with close friends. MiQuavious is an exceptional being and did not deserve to be a victim of this senseless act of violence. MiQuavious has a long road to recovery and many things are still uncertain. On behalf of his mother Apollonia Blanchard, their closest friends and the entire Blanchard family, we appreciate the outpouring of love, prayers and support shown over the past few days and undoubtedly in the weeks to come.
