Support Megan's Road To Recovery

Welcome to Megan's GoFundMe page. We decided to make this page to create a localized place to provide updates and give everyone a way to help Megan get better.

About Megan:

Megan is a 23-year-old force for good in the world. She is a mother of a 5-year-old daughter named Taylor. She is fiercely loyal, independent and self-sustaining. Megan loves music, nature, and a glass of wine.

What Happened:

On Wednesday, October 18th I received a phone call from Megan's work. Her coworker was extremely concerned about an intense headache Megan was experiencing and asked me to come pick her up.

By the time I arrived paramedics were already there and were prepping Megan to be taken to the hospital. By the time I arrived at the hospital it was known that Megan needed immediate brain surgery.

According to the surgeons, Megan was born with an arteriovenous malformation (AVM). This AVM ruptured spontaneously and caused a severe bleed in Megan's cerebellum. By the time Megan was on the operating table the bleed had reached the size of a tennis ball.

The surgery was successful in removing the AVM, draining the bleed, and reducing the pressure to Megan's brain. 

Since then Megan has been in a coma at Dell Seton Medical hospital receiving 24/7 care from the great nursing and medical staff.

Next Steps:

Megan's next steps are to receive a Tracheostomy and a PEG to give her a more permanent and long-term care. 

At some point, she will be transferred out of the ICU and into a long-term care facility.

How these funds will help:

This is a marathon, not a sprint, and so medical costs are going to be significant. Fortunately, Megan does have insurance.

The funds from this GoFundMe will go straight towards her insurance deductibles for 2017 and 2018.

So many of you have asked how you can help, and this is the best way we can think of.

I will do my best to provide timely updates as they come out.

- Operation room use bill

- Surgeon(s) time bill

- Medical ICU team bill

- Neurology team bill

- Nursing staff bill

- Respiratory Therapist team bill

- Multi-day use of ICU room bill

Megan's insurance will cover a lot of these bills, but as Megan's care extends into 2018 and beyond, the bills won't stop coming. I chose the funding amount to assist in covering Megan's insurance deductible for 2017 and 2018.
