I've been accepted into Youth with a Mission (YWAM) Creative Discipleship Training School (DTS) in Ålesund, Norway starting September 25th!! I am so excited for this opportunity! The school is a creative missions training and sending location based on the west coast of Norway. The goal is to serve the community & the world through art, evangelism & outreach. YWAM Ålesund is one of the many YWAM training locations throughout the world. The entire mission can be summed up in one sentence, to know God, and to make Him known.
The Creative DTS is a 9 month course with creative weeks spread throughout the normal 6 month DTS curriculum. This school gives students the tools to have a stronger foundation as an artist and to develop their character on a personal and spiritual level. DTS subjects include: the Gospel, Holy Spirit, God's Word, intercession, spiritual warfare, relationships, hearing God's voice, God's character, evangelism and missions.
The DTS outreach is a 2 month phase of the DTS that will take place in another country other than Norway. There will also be small outreaches to various places on the west coast of Norway.
I've been accepted into the Barista Track and it is designed to give me a strong overview on how to make coffee drinks of all types and the basics of coffee roasting. This course will cover latte art while educating each student on the process of a coffee bean as it goes from “coffee farm to coffee cup.” Each student will be equipped with the necessary skills to work in a fast paced coffee shop environment while keeping high standards during the process. Throughout the year I will also have the opportunity to volunteer in local cafés in the Ålesund area.
If you feel led to do so, I ask for your support in prayer, finances, or both as I embark on this adventure. The total cost of this 9 month DTS is about $8,500 (or 70,000 NOK). This includes everything from:
~housing
~food
~cost of teachers
~trips within Norway
~flights and stay for my outreach phase
I'm hoping to fundraise up to $5,000 to help cover a part of my tuition. ALSO you may be curious as to why I chose to do a Creative DTS in Norway. Well, I volunteered with ywam before and simply put, it changed my life! The first time was in 2014 in Kona, HI and I worked as a part of the kitchen crew for 4 months and in that time I also learned a lot about who God is and just how much He loves me! The second time I volunteered at a ywam base in Belize in 2016 and that time led me to commit my life to God through water baptism! Currently I work at Onyx Coffee Lab in Arkansas and I really enjoy working in the coffee industry! And now I'm excited for the opportunity to be a student with YWAM and see all the ways I can grow in my relationship with God while expanding my knowledge in coffee.
