Although this is not the news we wanted to share, David Scott Schneider was welcomed into his Heavenly Fathers arms on September 21, 2020, hearing the words, “Well done, My son.”
Dave did not have life insurance and Marcy has not worked during these last months due to taking care of Dave. Marcy also does not qualify for Dave's disability check until she turns 60. With the boys still living at home, the medical bills and financial needs are overwhelming at this moment.
Marcy will be looking for a job if anyone has any leads for her. Until then any contribution is greatly appreciated by the family.
From Marcy: Dave's journey with bladder cancer started this past summer. But his journey with health issues started at birth. Dave was born with an exstrophy of his bladder. Simply stated, his bladder was on the outside of his body when he was born. They placed it inside his body when he was four years old.
I could fill a small encyclopedia of Dave's journey with his health issues that stemmed from this birth defect. Since he'd had bladder issues his whole life it took longer for the diagnosis of cancer than most likely it would have for a person with a healthy bladder.
His Greensboro Urologist referred Dave to Chapel Hill in November of 2018. After many visits and series of medications he returned again in July for a cystocopy. This is when the mass in his bladder was discovered. In August we returned to Chapel Hill Hospital to receive the treatment plan. Instead we were informed that he needed a PET scan to make sure the cancer had not spread. We went back a few days later and were told his diagnosis was stage III bladder cancer.
The tumor in his bladder is very large and is pressing against his stomach wall. There are also some lymph nodes in his pelvic area that are abnormal looking, but the doctors decided not to biopsy them, opting instead to start treatment. Some would argue that this makes his cancer stage IV, but the treatment would remain the same. We were told that his recovery chances were about 40%. However, we know our God is bigger that that!
Most recent update: He will begin radiation here at the Cone Cancer Center on December 26. They have decided not to do the chemo since it had no effect on the cancer before. Thank goodness! He will have 25 treatments five days a week. The hope is that this will stop the growth of the cancer.
We celebrated 37 years of marriage in September and our hope and prayer is to celebrate many more anniversaries together.
I know friends of Marcy and Dave want to show their support during this difficult, expensive season of their life. The hope is any funds raised will help with not only the medical bills but life expenses. Marcy is not working at present in order to be a support and help during Dave's journey.
Let's give generously, expecting a miracle of healing from our big God!
