Support Madeline's Cancer Journey

Those of us lucky enough to call Madeline Mordarski our friend/family/friend-family/colleague/loved one have had the privilege of being in the company of one badass bitch. She is the kind of kind, fearless, tenacious, relentless, stubborn, glorious, resilient, add-a-dash-behind-every-impressive-word kind of person you only get to meet once in your life. The day she walked into mine changed the trajectory of who I would become.

I had the privilege (challenge?) of being Madeline's manager for four years at Compass before she spread her wings and moved on to another department within our organization. During this time, she pushed me to figure out what kind of leader I wanted to be, stepped into her own understanding of how to navigate her career journey, took our team through every hard season and, some days, gave me a run for my money. I have lived for every single minute of it.

Madeline is a force. She is the kind of spirit that reminds you of the truest, most genuine version of yourself. She gets you to ask yourself why you're playing small, takes zero prisoners, runs circles around you with a glass of Malbec in her hand, and sugarcoats nothing, all while loving you harder than you have ever been loved.

Now, our girl is in a time of reckoning. We are being called to her aid.

Six days after her 32nd birthday, Madeline was diagnosed with triple negative, grade 3 invasive ductal carcinoma with 90% proliferation. It is a rare, aggressive, difficult-to-treat kind of cancer, and she is at the very beginning of working with doctors to rally around her treatment plan.

She is making connections with survivors, scheduling scans, writing down all her questions, doing her damnedest to understand how to beat the 1.8cm x 6cm. x .3cm mass she's named Chad because, in her words, all Chads are assholes (if your name is Chad as you read this, I do hope you still donate).

Anyone who has been affected by the C-word (directly or indirectly) knows how medical bills add up quickly. Every red cent of this GoFundMe collection will be going towards Madeline's expenses as a result of medical treatment. Any unused funds will be donated to the Florida Breast Cancer Foundation.

Please be part of making cancer rue the day it knocked on the Marvelous Miss Mordarski's door, and spread the word to anyone in your circles to help us reach our goal. Any amount is appreciated.

About TNBC:
  • Triple Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC) is uncommon - around 15% of early breast cancers are this type.
  • TNBC is a cancer that does not have the 3 receptors- estrogen, progesterone, and the protein HER2, so it’s aggressive, and unable to be treated with the “standard regime” of breast cancer drugs. Therefore, treatment options are aggressive, but researchers are busy working on the next line of defence.
  • TNBC tends to be more common in women younger than age 40, who are Black, or who have a BRCA1 mutation.

This is what Madeline’s potential treatment plan looks like given the above:
  • ~4-6 months Chemotherapy and immunotherapy: this involves receiving infusions intended to shrink the tumour before surgery.
  • Surgery: Double Masectomy and reconstruction to remove all breast tissue.
  • Chemo pill (TBD): ~1 year of a low-dose chemo pill to reduce the typical 40% chance of reoccurrence
