A message from our director:
Welcome to Second Act Theatre. Over the past ten years I have had the honour and privilege to work with hundreds of remarkable people as a result of directing an annual musical at West Kings High School. The job includes working with students, parent volunteers, teachers, music directors, choreographers, musicians, carpenters, seamstresses, tech nerds, and make-up artists.
The company continuously raises the bar and many alumni now work in the theatre world and related disciplines. COVID interrupted what was anticipated to be a hugely successful run of Matilda. Every year, especially this one, with a heavy heart I close the script on final night thinking “What if I could have this group for just one more year?”
This is how Second Act has come to be. This is what happens when I can have that group one more year! Many members of our cast are West Kings alumni, which has made this transition seamless.
Information on our first show:
Our first production of The Rocky Horror Show is set for July 16th-17th at the Lawrencetown Exhibition Stage. We are extremely excited to put this on and confident that Rocky fans will embrace the experience. There are significant costs in putting on any production, but specifically as a brand-new theatre company, these costs are even more significant. We are excited to provide live theatre to our community during these unprecedented times in a safe and COVID-friendly environment, so we are taking care to follow both municipal and NS Theatre protocols.
We are also aware that many members of our community are struggling. The COVID-19 pandemic has shown us all that supporting each other and taking care of one another is of utmost importance, and many members of our communities are disproportionally affected by these circumstances. We want to help alleviate some of those troubles and give back to our local community. This is why proceeds from the show will be donated to Pride Nova Scotia and local organizations supporting LGBTQ+ rights. Your donation will not only help us with our production, it will also help support those who are compromised. Any and all donations made will guarantee an acknowledgment in our show’s program and those donating on behalf of a business can contact us for more advertising opportunities.
