Support Cory's Cancer Battle

Our brother, son, friend, partner, and father, Cory Rasmussen, has been diagnosed with cancer and has begun his journey of treatment and chemotherapy after a long diagnostic process. After a year of feeling ill, a tumor was found in Cory’s chest near his heart. The tumor has recently been removed by thoracic surgery, an invasive and painful process requiring deflation of his lungs through his ribs and followed by a heavy and lengthy recovery. Shortly after, tests revealed the positive presence of Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, a common & tricky, but treatable cancer.
Cory has dedicated his career to helping others, working in frontline mental health and addictions for high risk individuals and the homeless here in Nanaimo. Assisting in the process of getting people off the street and into housing, supporting them in maintaining housing, harm reduction to those in our community suffering from addiction, and acting as a first responder for those in danger of overdose. In his personal life, he is a recognized stand-up comedian and performer in our community and abroad. He loves to perform and free others from concern (if only for brief moments) using his sense of humour. That is his strength and uses it in all facets of his life. He simply wants to make people laugh and feel good, adding levity even in the most harsh and dark realms and situations life may throw at us all. Cory has a small family with his love Alison and 2-year-old daughter Laila (to whom he named after the undefeated female champion boxer and Muhammad Ali’s daughter, Laila Ali). Muhammad Ali has no greater fan than Cory.
Now Cory needs your help. With travel and medical expenses, and a sea of bills piling up, Cory and his family are struggling to make ends meet, let alone deal with and prepare for his fight ahead. It is unlikely that Cory will be able to work in the coming months during chemotherapy and his partner Alison has stopped working to care for him and their beautiful daughter full-time.
Cory has made a choice to devote his life to the service of others. Let us come together and help the helper. Support the supporter. Lift up the up-lifter. So that he may get back to doing what he loves most…. helping others.

Cory started comedy 5 years ago and boy are we lucky. His unique story telling comedy is so funny every time he steps on stage people are sucked right in, hanging on every word and then usually put in tears from laughter. He has performed at the Port Theatre and won many comedy competitions on the island. Once in a while you see a comedian that is a shining star, this is Cory Rasmussen.
