Educators’ Recovery from Uber Carjacking

Hi everyone, my name is LaShaudra Cox. I am a single parent an educator in Memphis, TN who drives part-time for Uber. On April 14, 2024 at approximately 1:45 AM I was on an active Uber pickup ride when the passengers carjacked me at gun point in the area of Danberry Ave and Bogoart off Boeingshire in the Whitehaven of Memphis. The two individuals who jacked my car were a young black female and male no older than 20. The young lady was asking suspicious questions during the ride about my car before arriving to their drop off location which is where they pulled out a gun and took my car. There was another vehicle waiting on them which lets me know they set me up. At the time I did not have an active personal insurance policy due to high premium cost. I was working Uber to make extra to afford a new policy. Uber is denying my conditional coverage because I did not have an active personal vehicle protection. I work really hard out here for a living and it sucks when people who don’t have a fear in the world take your hard earned belongings. I’m physically okay, but this is going to become a financial burden for me. Mentally I’m fried. Physically I walked away with my life. Ya girl is stressed! Who knew they were out here requesting Ubers only to car jack them. If you are able to make even a small contribution I would greatly appreciate it. This funds will help me to pay off the vehicle so that I can get another vehicle to support our livelihood.
