Support Lanie During Her Recovery
Donation protected
Lanie Barrett is a Behavior Interventionist, musician, and a mother of two. She has worked for Alameda Unified in special education for several years, at various schools throughout the island, and is currently supporting Lincoln Middle School.
On November 18, 2021, while out on her Honda Ruckus, a driver made a quick left turn in front of her, causing her to t-bone the car. The hit-and-run driver took off, leaving Lanie in the street with a dislocated shoulder, torn rotator cuff, a torn ACL, and a compound fracture in her left leg. While strangers stopped to help her in her time of need, those same people stole some items out of her backpack at the scene.
Her doctors and loved ones have marveled at her good spirits, and her trauma team says they expect her to make a complete recovery. However, Lanie will be unable to work for several months, as she will have to use a wheelchair during her recovery.
After six days in the hospital, Lanie is grateful to be alive, but the reality is, this accident is creating significant financial burdens for her. While she has health care coverage, the amount her insurance company has agreed to pay will barely make a dent in the expenses she'll rack up during recovery. She'll need four surgeries to put her back together, and she's facing these burdens with her trademark good humor. She is surrounded by friends and family who love her and want the best for her, and we know that with your generous donations, you can help alleviate some burdens she'll shoulder during this time.
We are asking for a total of $75,000 to offset the costs that accumulated during her hospital stay, and to provide a financial cushion for living expenses while she is out of work. Any amount you can donate will be greatly appreciated.
