My name is Jonathan LeBaron; I am a Sergeant with the Department of Public Safety at Syracuse University.
Our colleague and dear friend Detective James "Jimmy" Thompson, a 26-year employee of Syracuse University, has had a rough couple of years. We're here hoping to raise some funds to help.
In 2013 Jimmy had back surgery to repair damaged discs, which was followed by surgical complications. He had no growth regeneration of the nerves in his right foot, leaving him debilitated and unable to walk without assistance of a walker. In early 2014, a tumor was discovered in his stomach, and he recently finished his last chemotherapy treatment to combat the cancerous tumor.
Many of you will remember that we held a benefit event for Jimmy in May. We're so grateful for your help and donations for that benefit - thank you so much.
But there's been more bad news in the past few weeks:
Just as Jimmy's treatments ended, his wife Carroll also received a serious diagnosis. It was discovered that she has breast cancer, which has spread to her liver, bones, and lungs. She is currently hospitalized, and will begin a second round of chemo in the next week or so. The next few months will continue a difficult time in the lives of Carroll, Jimmy and their family members.
Jimmy has been out of work since May 27, 2013, and while his personal condition has improved, he still has limited mobility and the medical bills have been accumulating at an alarming rate.
We would like to assist Jimmy and his family with the bills from their recent treatments and related expenses, and we'd be very grateful for any help from you.
