Hi, my name is Jenny Fagan, and I’m organizing this fundraiser for one of the kindest, most generous souls you could ever hope to meet — Hugh.

For the past 18 years, I’ve had the incredible privilege of calling Hugh my friend. We’ve all been devastated since Hugh was diagnosed with an incurable stage 4 brain tumour just over two and a half years ago. He has shown incredible strength, courage, and grace. He’s taken everything in his stride, never complaining, always fighting, and continuing to be the same thoughtful, funny, and generous person we all love.

By his side every step of the way is his amazing wife, Niamh – his rock, his warrior. Their love and resilience have been nothing short of inspiring.

The news of Hugh’s diagnosis has deeply affected everyone in our close-knit village of Annagasan and beyond. Hugh is the kind of person who would give his last penny if it meant helping someone else – the kind of soul who lifts everyone around him. Now, it’s our turn to lift him.

Hugh is now becoming more and more dependent on Niamh to care for him and help with daily tasks. Due to this, Niamh has been gradually reducing her working hours, and they are now at a point where she will need to take a step back from work entirely to dedicate more time to caring for Hugh.

Hugh’s team are also trying to get him an electric wheelchair, as he is really struggling with his loss of independence. Niamh is experiencing back problems from pushing his current wheelchair and lifting it in and out of the car. They now need to prepare their home for this transition, which includes creating an accessible entrance, making necessary modifications within their home, and purchasing a wheelchair-accessible vehicle.

This is why we’ve set up this GoFundMe page – to support Hugh and Niamh through these very real challenges. They’ve experienced significant financial loss during this time, and sadly, they still have a mortgage and all their regular bills – plus many new expenses now. We want to help alleviate some of this burden and support any modifications required to protect their home and improve their daily quality of life.

This fundraiser is to help Hugh, Niamh, and their loved ones create as many beautiful memories together as possible. Whether it's for special days out, travel, or simply giving them the time and space to be together, every donation – no matter the size – will make a meaningful difference.
