I got to know Hayley when she came to Sydney in January 2021 for her husband Diego's last chance surgery with Charlie Theo for terminal brain cancer. Hayley is a beautiful, caring mother of 4 beautiful and very young children and now the full-time carer for her husband, Diego.

While Diego's surgery successfully reduced the tumour, he sadly has not recovered to be the Diego that the family know and love, and in February they received the news that the cancer has spread and time is incredibly limited. Diego requires 24-hour care and, unfortunately, is now moving to end of life care. The updated goal will now help cover costs such as palliative care and funeral costs.

UPDATE 11 July: Today, we sadly share the news that Diego passed away on the 9th of July, surrounded by his family in his home, full of love and compassion. We thank those who have donated for their generosity, and Hayley would like to share her gratitude to Halie from Paper Bark Death Care for helping her and her family navigate this process with such love, respect and care.

It has been a long journey that is definitely not over for Hayley and her family. Please dig deep to help support Hayley and her children as they navigate Diego's funeral and help this wonderful family work through their grief and rebuild their lives honouring Diego's legacy.

UPDATE 6 July: Hayley has been notified Diego is in his final moments with his family and Hayley has moved to hire death support and plan for his cremation. Thank you for all of your kindness and generosity to date. We have increases our target to help support Hayley and the family through this time and also through their healing process once Diego passes.

UPDATE 21 June: Hayley and Diego are now moving into palliative care and the funding above is now going to support that care, funeral costs and anything remaining will help provide care, counselling and support as Hayley and the kids grieve.

UPDATE 23 Feb: Diego has had his private scan which has sadly revealed the tumour has spread down his spine. Hayley and Diego are trying to process the news and work out how to move forward and what treatment options there are for Diego.
