Support GiGi's Breast Cancer Fight!
The Manalad & Masilang family is raising money to help Margarita "GiGi" Manalad, our sister & cousin in the Philippines, fight stage 4 breast cancer, which was diagnosed in September 2018. GiGi is a loving, compassionate, enthusiastic woman who has dedicated her life to the Catholic Church by helping others through ministries, medical missions, & teaching religion class to children. She is also a faithful and loving daughter. She sacrificed the happiness of having her own family as she devoted her whole life taking care of her grandparents and parents, who, unfortunately were all taken away from her by the Lord. She was not able to practice her profession, as taking care of sick family members was priority. Now she lives alone, dependent on some close friends and relatives to help her in these trying times. She has raised, played with, babysat and laughed with all us cousins at one point or another. Although we are now spread around the globe in the Philippines, USA, Canada, & New Zealand, we are giving back by helping her fight this awful disease.
Her oncologist at The Medical City in the Philippines recommended chemotherapy, which would take more than a year to complete, but right now it is the only option. Cost is P115,000 (Philippine Pesos), or $2300usd per session, including MD fees, etc outside of the chemo, and the initial recommendation is 25 weeks & then reassess. She was also referred to the tertiary, state-owned Philippine General Hospital in Manila, where expenses would be less, but there are long lines & red tape just to get on a waiting list.
Thus, our goal is $60,000usd, which would include a small cushion for unexpected expenses.
We want to help her start treatment as soon as possible, because she can not afford to be on a waiting list when the treatment is readily available! We can not solely raise what's needed within our family, so we are reaching out for your support. Please help if you can.
