Support Fort Davis's service industry

Donation protected
This fund is being established by the Fort Davis Chamber of Commerce to help the Fort Davis service-industry community during the Coronavirus pandemic. Many employees have lost their jobs due to county wide shut downs.  The funds raised through this crowdfunding effort will be awarded to individuals that were employed in Jeff Davis County and have been laid off in the form of Porter's Grocery or Stone Village gift certificates.
We love our servers, bartenders, cleaning crews, rental managers/owners as they are the backbone to our greatest industry, tourism. This is a devastating time for our community.
Our hope is that the fund will provide quick relief to those most vulnerable helping get bills at the checkout line reduced and keeping food on the table. Unemployment checks and stimulus packages are on the way, but help with groceries provides short term relief until these measures arrive.

For those who are able to, this moment presents an opportunity to come together in support of those who are in the greatest need.
Thank you for your support during trying times.

How It Works:

• This gofundme page will be accepting donations until May 15th, 2020.

• The sum total of all donations, less any credit card fees charged by gofundme and costs related to translation, will be used to purchase gift cards from local Fort Davis grocery stores, Porter’s and Stone Village Market.

• Gift cards will be distributed to those service employees who have 1) registered and 2) who are eligible after employment verification (eligibility requirements below).

• Gift cards will be distributed to each person in shares equal to the sum total of all donations, less fees stated above, divided by the number of eligible, registered service workers.

• Distributions to those eligible will be made on or about Monday, May 18th (or hopefully sooner).

Who Is Eligible:

• You are a Fort Davis or Jeff Davis County service worker who has lost employment due to coronavirus related closures. This includes hotel, motel, short-term rentals, and restaurant employees both front and back of house; retail employees; as long as owners will verify your employment; and service employees at other workplaces (e.g. barbershops, wellness centers, etc.) that will verify loss of employment due to coronavirus related closures.

• You must have been employed on the date of the closure, or the Jeff Davis County directive to close.

• You must currently live in the tri-county area—Presidio, Brewster, or Jeff Davis counties.

• An individual is only eligible for one share of the distribution, regardless if they had multiple places of employment.

• You must register using this link  by Friday, April 24th, 2020.

• Chamber director, Melissa Henderson will request your employment verification from the employer contact you provide.
