My transplant contacts in Europe are desperately trying to organise medications, dialysis, accommodation, transport, phone cards, food, clothes etc., for these patients and their families from Ukraine, who are fleeing to Poland, Germany, Hungary, Romania, Moldova and Slovakia.

All money donated will go to trusted transplant colleagues who will use every penny to pay for the above. Dialysis is being offered free, but not the practical logistics of living

My colleagues tell me about many examples - 1) the young woman aged 31 waiting for a lung transplant from Lviv. This woman has five children aged 14, 11, 9, 7 and 5. Her husband is fighting in the war. Within 14 hours, she arrived in Poland at the Silesian Center for Heart Diseases in Zabrze. With the help of POLTRANSPLANT. She receives dialysis overnight.

2) A couple left Nikolayev (southern Ukraine, near the Black Sea). The Russians were entering the city as they were leaving. The wife who needs dialysis is in a wheelchair and with oxygen. They stayed in Lviv all night because there was no connection to the border in Poland. They had to travel 1,300 km to Poland. After crossing the border, she went to the hospital, and her husband was found a bed in the Felician Sisters' convent,

3) A lung transplant patient has arrived in Romania on a life-saving drug not licensed in Romania. Through our network, Portugal posted one box to my colleague in Romania, and the drug company has now been approached to supply off licence on humanitarian grounds; however, the drug needs to be paid for
