Support for Tonga

Donativo protegido
A category 4 Cyclone devastated the Pacific Islands on January 11th, 2018. The Islands of Tonga were primarily affected with this cyclone being the greatest storm to ever hit its shores. The nation of Tonga is poverty-stricken and lacking in progressive actions for technology, housing, and economics due to the nation’s lack of funds. However, the Tongan people have remained humble and genuine throughout their financial trials.

Unlike other nations who have fell victim to natural disasters, the nation of Tonga has little to no internal support when it comes to these types of crises. When houses are destroyed and buildings are obliterated—there is no place of refuge for the people to turn to. They are forced to live with their treacherous circumstances and continue to rebuild upon their broken homes and villages.  It’s important to realize that the nation of Tonga already stood as one of the poorest nations in the world. Following this cyclone, the minimal amounts of fortune that they had are now completely destroyed.

The people of Tonga will press forward and continue to survive with, or without, the help we choose to give them. They are empowered, resilient, and beautiful people who have been struck by the hands of nature. Despite their indisputable strength, it’s our responsibility as a community to unite and show up for them—regardless of whether they ask or remain silent. It is clear to see that they refuse to succumb to their fears and give up, they will continue to fight whether we raise $1 or $1000. But unlike our past mistakes and actions of ignorance in which we abandoned other communities in positions of suffering, we must step up and show the people of Tonga that we will fight alongside them. This is our battle, too.

Like many others, my family immigrated to the US in hopes of finding economic security, a better education, sustainable wealth, etc. I am grateful for the sacrifices made by my parents—but it’s time, now, to turn that gratitude into direct action to fight for the communities back at home who aren’t as fortunate.

Please donate any amount you are able to offer up to the people of Tonga—no offering is too small. The cyclone has, unfortunately, demolished most of their lines for communication with external affairs. The money raised with this GoFundMe will go DIRECTLY to buying supplies to ship off to the people of Tonga. Pictures will be uploaded to document the efforts we plan to take to help these people. If you are unable to donate funds, but you would like to help in other ways (Blankets, Socks, Clothes, Books, etc.) please send an email with alternate ways in which you wish to assist to: [email redactado]

Thank you for your service.
