Melanie Mawer, age 47, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2020 as a result of an inoperable glioblastoma multiforme, the condition that shared her body and her beautiful life for many more weeks than was first expected. As her cellular transformation occurred through subsequent treatment regimes to address the aggressive brain cancer, she invited us to witness and participate in her soul-ular transformation as it unfurled. A tangible outcome of this journey is a series of poems that she wrote for herself, and for us. Melanie was an active volunteer and community member and was a model of strength and courage in experiencing her illness and sharing deep insights with us.
FLOATING THROUGH THE MIDDLE

I have no hope
I have no fear
I’m floating through the middle.
I’m my own ineffable Golden Mean.
Relaxing into my divine world.
Relaxing into my divine self.

Melanie's life is a testament to her values which are: connecting people & ideas; finding the best in people (and leaving them better than she found them); celebrating; giving credit where credit is due; expressing creativity and in all these things - to be kind. Melanie had a sense of connection to something greater than herself and believed she had a greater purpose than her material presence and contributions on earth. Not only will she be remembered for her courage and optimism; by her example, she has inspired us to continue in love, gather regularly and celebrate often.
