Support for the Heim Family

The Heim family is a member of the Hampton Roads International Montessori School Community. Peter (age 3) has been attending HRIMS for 2 years, in our Toddler 2 Classroom last year and a portion of this year, and in Ms. Kim's Children's House 1 classroom since January. Peter has a one-year-old sister, Lillian, who is planning on attending HRIMS next year.
Fifteen days ago, Peter's parents, Eugene and Kathleen, traveled to Maryland as advised by Eugene's doctor. Eugene was diagnosed with intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (cancer) at Johns Hopkins Cancer Treatment Center. They found that the cancer had invaded his lungs, liver, bones and lymph nodes in his abdomen. Although Eugene was at the foremost center for cancer research, it had spread too far for treatment.
Peter's Dad was able to come home last weekend to spend his last days with his children and family. He passed away on Saturday, only fifteen days after being diagnosed. He was only 39 years old. He leaves behind his wife, Kathleen, and his two children, Peter (age 3), and Lillian (age 1).
As this was so sudden, there are many unplanned for expenses. As HRIMS is such a close-knit family, we hope that you would be willing to support one of our own in this devastating time.
It is our hope that HRIMS can come together and raise funds so that the family can maintain their focus on their family and coping with such a tragic loss.
