Support for the Hastaba Family
We lost our dad, Gerard Hastaba, on Monday, January 4, 2021. He passed away at the much too young age of 67.
Our dad was the centerpiece that solidified his family with his endless love. His larger-than-life presence, his unforgettable singing voice, and his sharp wit, has touched every single person. He was truly a one-of-a-kind family man; the most humble and loving husband, father and brother.
He battled several surgeries in a short period of time, ultimately rendering him immobile as a bilateral amputee. For the past three years, even though he was wheelchair bound, he stood tall for his family with his high spirits and affectionate personality.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation which will aid in funeral expenses and his youngest son Anthony’s college fund. Anthony is a high school senior and he plans to follow in our dad’s footsteps. Our dad fought so hard but unfortunately, isn’t able to make it to his son’s graduation and send him off to college.
The below is a part of Anthony’s college essay that he never got the chance to share with our dad.
“I believe the heartache that I experienced was a requisite to shape me into the person I am today. My dad’s disability cultivated my desire to break boundaries through engineering a better world for society, but most profoundly, the ability to design his new reality. His lawn mower has been replaced with an electric wheelchair, and I am no longer steering from his lap. I have become his support, his crutch, and I am navigating a direction all on my own. I plan to follow in his footsteps, and although his foot prints have been replaced with tire tracks, they are solid, fail-safe, and unstoppable.”
Any kind of contribution helps--small, large, a like or a share. Thank you to everyone for your condolences in his memory.
