The Hansen’s Story... and Brooke’s Fight!
It’s been a crazy last couple of days. While in Maui with her mom and grandparents, Brooke developed a cough that seemed to be getting worse. On Tuesday morning she was having difficulty breathing to the point that it became necessary to take her to the ER. The CT scan revealed that one of her large tumors was pushing on her airway and had significantly narrowed it. It was determined she would need a stint placed to open her airway. Maui has a small hospital and doesn’t have anyone that does this procedure. The only option appeared to be staying in Maui until she passed away. Not something we ever imagined having to do. She was put on a breathing machine and placed in the ICU. Her dad, aunt, and uncle booked emergency flights to Maui. On Wednesday, they found a doctor in Honolulu who was willing to place a stint to open her airway and she would be medivaced. The procedure was successful and she is off the breathing machine and only on oxygen. It was a long flight back to Washington, but Brooke is home and recovering at home.
There’s still a long road ahead, but God has faithfully used friends, family, doctors and medical staff, airline teams, and even strangers to pour out blessings during this challenging time. Thank you for your continued support and prayers as we try to lift the added burden of financial pressure from this already painful situation.
