Hi, I’m Michele and I’ve been one of Robbie’s BFFs since we were in 6th grade at Johns Elementary School in Arlington, Texas. We’ve been through the ups and downs of life together for close to 49 years. This past year, life has presented some very difficult challenges for Robbie and her husband, David. She’s one tough cookie, but I finally convinced her to allow me to create this GoFundMe so the people who love and care for them so dearly can reach out and help them through this tough time.
Several years ago, Robbie and David moved in with her mom, Sharon, to help care for her. Sharon had been showing some early signs of dementia. David was on disability due to a very painful autoimmune disease called leukocytosis vasculitis, so he was able to somewhat help care for Sharon while Robbie worked full-time as Executive Director for Sagora Senior Living in Carrollton.
On August 9, 2022, Robbie’s mom fell and fractured her pelvis. After being hospitalized for three days, she was moved to a rehab hospital. In preparation for her mother to hopefully return home after the rehab, Robbie took FMLA from her job so she could care for her. However, as Sharon continued to decline in the rehab hospital, life took another bad turn: David was diagnosed with two kinds of cancer: esophageal and lung.
Now having two loved ones to coordinate care for, Robbie was left with no choice but to use up all of her PTO, FMLA, and two unpaid leave-of-absences offered from her employer. David began chemotherapy and radiation treatments in October after a 16-day hospital stay. With the undeniable help, love, and support of family throughout the process, there were still challenges with providing hands-on help, due to health concerns, personal obligations, and distance. David’s daily cancer care was, and continues to be, vigorous - involving being fed through a feeding tube, routine administration of over a dozen medications, oxygen therapy, breathing treatments - all requiring someone to be with him 24/7. Since his cancer diagnosis, he has been hospitalized five times.
On December 13, in the midst of David’s cancer treatment, Sharon passed away in her sleep. Robbie was her only child. Needless to say, it was a very overwhelming time for Robbie … and it continues to be.
On January 11, 2023, Robbie received a letter from her employer, officially ending her employment. She was a very valued employee within the company - very well liked and highly respected - but understandably they needed to fill her position.
As you can imagine, this has been an excruciatingly stressful time for Robbie. Those close to her have felt the pain of her situation, and I know there are so many who want to help more. Therefore, I’ve created this site so people can make donations to help cover medical costs and other expenses until David is well enough to be left alone at home and she can go back to work.
Speaking on behalf of them, I know they both have so appreciated the friends and family who have brought food by, sent gift cards, have sat at the hospital with her, and have prayed for them. Please keep the prayers coming! Thank you in advance for your kindness and support.
