On Sunday, March 1st, Doug experienced a sudden cardiac event at home.
Doug was taken to the hospital where he has been fighting over the past week. The event is very similar to the one his Mom experienced just a few years ago.....and his grandfather experienced eerily similar events before that.
Stephanie, Doug’s wife, and his 3 children Paige (age 21), Makenna (age 17) and Brodie (age 15) made the very unselfish decision to put Doug on an organ donor list. They learned mid-week that his brain had very minimal function despite the heroic efforts of his family and hospital personnel at Methodist West in Houston.
On Saturday March 7th the Archer Family started their day with an honor walk as they accompanied their husband/ Dad to the operating room. So many friends and loved ones joined the walk with tears of love and appreciation despite the broken hearts yet to begin a journey of healing. Care was redirected and Doug Archer, no doubt playing the fiddle and drums, made his way to heaven’s door. At 11:16 CST, Doug left this world .....but in doing so, he left behind the ultimate gift of ‘life’ for many. His organs were shared amongst a handful of different patients. In this perspective of HOPE, we pray the seed of healing is planted for the wife, children, family, friends of Doug Archer.
We can only imagine that patients with ‘new’ organs and ‘new’ life, have somehow acquired a hankering for country music, Chuy’s tacos and a good ol’ time with the people they love.
