Shelley Steinke has been diagnosed with an inoperable Grade 3 Anaplastic Astrocytoma. This type of tumor is inoperable because it spreads out and attaches itself to the good tissues in the brain.
In late January 2017 she began having problems controlling her right hand. She went to the doctor several times and on March 7 she had a MRI which showed the brain tumor. She had a biopsy in Rochester, MN which allowed the doctor to look at the tumor closer and remove samples to run tests with.
Shelley began treatments in Eau Claire on March 27. She had Radiation treatments 5 days/week and took oral Chemotherapy 7 days/week until May 17. She had a follow up MRI on June 15 but the results were inconclusive. She will begin a stronger dose of Chemotherapy again on June 19 for 5 days. Shelley will continue to work with her team of doctors to determine additional treatments.
The brain tumor is located on the left side of Shelley’s brain. This has caused her to be unable to work because it limits her ability to use her right arm. Although Shelley has a good health insurance plan, the medical bills are already starting to add up.
