Support for Ray Aldred

Dear friends of Ray,

As you may know, Ray had a stroke last week and is currently recovering in the ICU at the Montreal Neurological Institute.  We are heartened that he is already showing amazing signs of healing, including being alert and responsive and communicating using the “thumbs up” sign to his partner Lewina (who is unfortunately, due to COVID 19, only able to visit via videoconferencing for now).

We are also aware that the road to recovery following a stroke can be a long one, with lots of ups and downs, and lots of expenses, both foreseeable and not. 

Ray is an important part of our community and we would like to be there for him and his family just as he has been there, and would be there, for us.

Please donate whatever you can to help replace lost income and cover additional expenses related to Ray’s recovery.  All money raised will go directly to Ray.

 Since we all know Ray in different capacities, we include this bio of him here:

Raymond Aldred is a Ph.D. student in the philosophy department at McGill University, finishing up his final year of thesis work. He is a member of the Métis Nation.

Ray obtained a B.A. with first-class distinction from the University of Calgary, and an M.A. from the same institution. He has taught courses in Indigenous Education, and Logic, with diverse research interests ranging from Indigenous philosophies to philosophy of sexuality. More recently, he has been published in the Journal of Cognition and Neuroethics, and has a forthcoming chapter coming out in a book on sexuality. His chapter in the anthology focuses on the insights Indigenous philosophies and practices can offer in answering tough philosophical questions, and he looks forward to doing future work in this area.

In his spare time, Ray enjoys learning French and Cree, learning programming languages, collecting body art, and spending time with his partner and their two boys.
