Support for Nala and her parents

On Tuesday August 25th at 36 weeks pregnant, my son and his wife found out that their 1st child, a baby girl, Nala Jhené Brown, would only live for 1-2 mins after birth and then she would die. She has a rare condition, Right-sided congenital diaphragmatic hernia (RCDH), as well as heterotaxy. This has caused her intestines to invade her upper cavity. By doing so, her lungs did not fully develop. She has no left lung and only a very tiny sliver of a right lung. On top of that, some of her organs were swapped and developed on the opposite side of her body making it an even more rare case conjoined. The expert doctors at UCSF did a fetus MRI and this is where the finding resulted in a decision that they would not intervene once she is born. She simply does not have enough lung to survive.

Nala is due on the 9/27 and now the doctors are looking at moving that due date up to have as safe of a delivery as possible. My son and his wife are preparing for the birth and death of their beautiful baby girl with only a month warning. There are no words. This is deeply tragic. There are many needs at this time from the cremation, to the memorial for Nala, to the daily and monthly living needs of her parents. Unfortunately, on top of it all there has been a struggle with getting FMLA paperwork signed for my son and his job is giving him a very hard time. There is only a 3-day grieving period written in their policy. If he is not able to return after 3 days, he will be let go. I am not sure about you, but it will be much longer than 3 days to grieve such a loss as your 1st born. We thank you in advance for every contribution large or small. We encourage you to remember that love is the only thing that is real. Everything else is an illusion. Love never dies. But it does transcend, as each of us will do one day. And there is nothing that separates us from the love of God. Thank you again for being a blessing.
