Help support Mitch and his young family

On Saturday 4th September 2021, just before midnight, Mitch 37 years old suffered from a violent seizure. His partner Nat woke to hear Olivia, the couple’s 9-month-old daughter crying from her room. She went to settle Olivia and found Mitch on the lounge room floor. The Ambulance arrived a short time later and Mitch was rushed to hospital where he experienced a second large seizure. Mitch spent his first Father's Day in the ICU ward under heavy sedation hooked up to cords, monitors and IV drips with no visitors allowed due to Covid-19 restrictions.

Over the day Mitch had several tests and CT scans. The scans showed a large mass on the left side of his brain. Mitch underwent emergency surgery and spent over a week in the Neurosurgical ward. A team of doctors informed Mitch and Nat of the devastating news that he had an incurable high grade primary malignant brain tumour; Glioblastoma. They were also informed that the surgeons were unable to remove all the tumour as it has infiltrated his brain, making it impossible to remove.

Since leaving hospital, Mitch has been experiencing unexpected seizures and has little to no energy. He is confused and forgetful at times, having great difficulty with his short-term memory and has been advised he should always have someone with him. Mitch attends hospital every day for treatment and is two weeks into an intense 6 weeks of radiation and chemotherapy. At the completion of the 6 weeks, he will then start a further 6 months of chemotherapy.

Mitch is currently exhausting any type of work leave he has while he undergoes months of treatment. Nat is unable to return to work at this time with the uncertainty of Mitch's health and being the primary carer of both Mitch and Olivia.
