Support for Michael Thom's Family
**Update** Thanks hugely to everyone who has donated. Jeremy (Michael’s brother) will withdraw the funds and transfer money to Fliss’ UK account. Funds will be used by Fliss to help with mortgage repayments and other expenses that are now much more difficult without the primary income earner. We’re all missing Michael enormously. Thanks to all of you again.
Michael Thom unexpectedly passed away on 14 April 2021 at his home in Cornwall, England, aged 47.
Michael Thom attended St George's College between 1991 and 1993. He was known by several monikers at college, with "Chewie" being by far the most common. Chewie was tall with dark features and a dry but wicked sense of humour. He was incredibly intelligent and passionate about native wildlife and the environment.
College was a memorable event in the lives of most people who attended. Chewie, was part of that event. Some knew him well, others less so. Regardless, he was part of the college community that helped us all grow up.
Chewie leaves behind a wife, Fliss, and two beautiful young children, Jessica (8) and Fraser (6). To lose a father at such a young age is a traumatic and life changing event. As a family, they are going face significant challenges without the support of a father who was central to their world. Additionally, he provided their main source of income. From afar, we can not readily provide the day to day practical and emotional support that they require. However, by making a donation, we may be able to alleviate some of the financial pressures that all young families experience.
Jessica and Fraser will have wonderful memories of their father but it makes me sad to think that they won't get to hear the stories of his college days. If you have a story about Chewy or a photo, please forward it to the Georgians. I would love to think that his children will have some insight into this chapter of his life.
