Young Mother Fights Rare Cancer

Donation protected
In September, doctors found a mass on what they thought was Jordan's ovary while performing a routine ultrasound  during her second pregnancy. It was thought to resemble a benign cyst that would be removed during her caesarian section in April.

Doctors monitored the cyst throughout Jordan's pregnancy and became a little more concerned in February, as it seemed to hold charateristics of a neoplasm, with features of both benign and malignant tumors. The plan for removal was still the same unless the doctors determined that it looked malignant during the c-section.

Jordan had her c-section on April 17th and healthy baby Mia was born! However, Jordan's OB was unable to remove the mass because it was located in an unexpected location,  not on the ovary but within the retroperitoneal cavity (a space deep in the abdomen that contains the kidneys).

A follow-up CT scan in May suggested the mass was most likely a sarcoma, a rare form of cancer. As you can imagine, Jordan's world was flipped upside down when she heard this unexpected news. She decided to pursue a second opinion at the University of Michigan, where a team comprised of a cancer surgeon and radiologists agreed that the mass was most consistent with a retroperitoneal cystadenocarcinoma. This is an extremely rare form of cancer, with less than 75 cases reported in the history of medicine!

Jordan is scheduled to have surgery to remove the tumor on June 27th. It will be a very tedious procedure. The mass needs to be removed fully, and without rupturing it, as this could lead to infection and spread of the cancer.

Although we don't yet have an approximate total for Jordan's medical bills and many other expenses, we know they will be costly as she heads down this long road. Jordan and Andrew will also have lost wages for work they miss. Her recovery is expected to be about four to six weeks. The need for chemotherapy and/or radiation is not yet known.

We will be updating this post often with new information as Jordan's story unfolds. Please check back often and pray for Jordan, Andrew, and their two little girls, Marley (4 yrs) and Mia (2 months).  Any financial donation is appreciated. We are so grateful for your support!
